Today in History: December 28th

1065: Westminster Abbey is consecrated. A year later, William I would be crowned at the Abbey, fast to become one of the most famous Churches in the world. The Abbey has endured the centuries, and is home now to a myriad of poets, kings and politicians.

1885: The Indian National Congress Party is founded in Bombay. This party, one of the oldest in the world, would become the main driving force against British rule and for independence. After the granting of independence in 1947, the Party became one of India’s major two, competing with the Bharatiya Janata Party for political office.
